Building A Fairer, Healthier World This World Health Day

Each year on 7th April, the World Health Organisation, or WHO, invites us to celebrate World Health Day with them. The day highlights the need for health equality both here at home in the UK, and around the world and each year, a different theme is celebrated.

Over the years, various important health issues have been marked by World Health Day. Last year it was the Year of the Nurse and Midwife, and previously many different aspects of physical, mental and childhood health have been explored.

This year, the theme is Building a Fairer, Healthier World, which is apt after the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has highlighted the inequalities of healthcare access and provisions in different parts of the world.

The WHO say, “As COVID-19 has highlighted, some people are able to live healthier lives and have better access to health services than others - entirely due to the conditions in which they are born, grow, live, work and age. This leads to unnecessary suffering, avoidable illness and premature death, and it harms our societies and economies”.

This got us thinking here at Own Your Goals with Davina, and we felt so proud of our amazing, and ever growing community. With workouts designed for a range of abilities from beginner and newbie to exercise, to advanced workouts for those of you that have been exercising for a while, we’ve got everyone covered.

We know that committing to regular exercise can be tricky, and if you’re new to exercise, it can be daunting knowing where to start. That’s why, with the help of our fantastic trainers, we’re with you every step of the way on your journey to health and fitness. We’re an inclusive bunch, and even if our beginner, intermediate and advanced classes aren’t your thing, we have so many other classes to choose from. These include, Yoga, Pilates, Toned in 10, F.I.T Combat and Dance Party workouts. So, whatever you fancy, at whatever intensity, you’ll find it here.

Not only have we got all you need to get fit from home, we have a huge range of healthy, yet filling and wholesome recipes to keep your tastebuds interested too. Whether you’re looking for inspiration on exactly what to do with chickpeas or you’re desperate for a lower calorie Chicken Curry recipe, we won’t disappoint you.

In between all your exercise and healthy cooking, you may be looking for advice an inspiration on many different aspects of health. Our Wellbeing pages are updated all the time with information on everything from meal planning, mental health support and the menopause. So make sure you check back regularly to see what else we’re discussing.

Finally, the element of OYG we’re most proud of is our OYG Community. It’s safe, non-judgemental place where all of our lovely fans can share inspiration, ask questions and give support and advice. It’s truly incredible and a real demonstration of how even online communities can work together in building each other up and encouraging health and fitness for all.

Without you, OYG wouldn’t be anything near what we’ve all achieved together, and we appreciate every single one of you. So this World Health Day, make sure you show yourself the same appreciation as you celebrate a fairer, healthier world.
