Dress to Impress: Our Favourite Outfits this Summer

Hands up if you find it tricky to plan outfits when the weather changes. We certainly do, not least because the Great British Weather can be so changeable. One minute we’re shivering in thick tights and coats. Then suddenly it’s bare leg weather and we’re having to change everything we knew was certain, wardrobe-wise.

We’ve heard things before about a capsule wardrobe, which got us intrigued. We’ve also had a look at what the top fashion mags are predicting for this summer - and we’ve put them together to help you put together your favourite looks this summer! This being said, avoid choosing clothes just because they are in fashion and on trend, pick outfits that make you feel confident and empowered as the best outfit we all wear is 'confidence'!

The beauty of a capsule wardrobe is that you’ve probably already got some of the items already hanging in your wardrobes and hiding in your drawers. So, with a few carefully chosen new pieces you’ll be on trend and the talk of the town!

  • Mid length pleated skirts are set to be one of the big trends this year, which we love for so many reasons. Firstly, they go perfectly with a pair of flat pumps or plimsolls - and we do love comfortable feet. Secondly, the mid length is flattering, shows a bit of ankle and means that we don’t have to bare all if we like to keep our legs covered. Thirdly, they pair excellently with either a vest top, tee or cropped jumper, that you may already have, and is ideal for all weather eventualities.
  • Guess what? The Power Suit is back! Pull out the tailoring you may already have or invest in a new trouser suit for a strong look whether you’re going on a date, to a wedding or to bag yourself that new job. Team with heels or flats, shirt or a strappy top (that are also bang on trend now) - just know that 80s power shoulders are in, and the bigger the better.
  • Floaty florals are also making a comeback so think pretty pastels and traditionally feminine prints and fabrics adorning long, summery dresses which are ideal with flip flops and sandals.
  • Talking of loose fitting, baggy jeans and oversized shirts are set to become big. Wide legged jeans might take a bit of getting used to after so many years of skinnies but we’re embracing the change and wearing them with plimsolls and a fitted tee. Wearing an oversized shirt with baggy jeans might also take a while to get used to, but tuck in at the back and on one side, leave the other side nonchalantly hanging (“I just threw this look together without trying, but actually tried really hard” - that kind of vibe) and leave as many buttons undone at the top as you dare. Besides, wearing bras as outerwear is going to be a thing this year - you heard it here first!

In terms of your capsule wardrobe staples, we’re bringing the following to the fronts of our closets:

  • White plimsolls (preferably ones that are machine washable to keep them looking fresh)
  • Cropped jeans (we’re still keeping things skinny, whether we invest in baggies or not)
  • Oversized sunnies
  • A range of short sleeved tees and vests
  • Long sleeved cardis (ideal for layering for the unpredictable weather)
  • Our faithful denim jacket
