Love Fitness? Here’s 5 Fitness Career Ideas!
If you love everything about health and fitness, then the fitness industry needs you! Working in the fitness industry is incredibly rewarding as you’ll be helping to motivate people and, in many ways, change their lives. Being motivated and confident enough to exercise and eat healthily is difficult, and those who are in need of help need people like you to provide guidance and support.
So, what careers are there in the health and fitness industry? Here’s five ideas…
- The most obvious career path is as a Personal Trainer, or PT. To become a PT, you need to qualify and this means achieving at least a Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instruction and a Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training. You can become more and more qualified, and courses range from full time degrees to part time online courses. Then you can work as a PT in a gym, health club or on your own on a self-employed basis.
- A sports massage therapist involves more than providing relaxing massages. A sports massage helps those who are recovering from injury or simply want to improve their performance by releasing tight, tired muscles. Sports massage therapists often work alongside physiotherapists and professional sports teams and individuals so it can be fast paced and exciting.
- If you’re heavily into fitness and you’ve worked super hard to hone yourself a super fit, strong body, then you could consider a career as a fitness model. Being a fitness model can mean modelling fitness clothing or performing certain exercises for training videos for others to learn the perfect form from. This kind of work can be very competitive, and you could find that you go a long while without regular work. For this reason, many fitness models tend to have another job providing regular income alongside their modelling, at least whilst they’re becoming more established.
- Fitness isn’t just about the physical side, how we fuel our bodies with our food is equally as important. So if diet and food interests you, a registered dietician could be a satisfying career path. A registered dietician requires a degree in nutrition plus a certificate proving they’ve passed the relevant exams to become registered. It’s therefore a few years of studying, exams and learning, but the rewards will be well worth it.
- Have you ever watched your favourite sport and been frustrated/delighted at the decisions made by the referee, umpire or other official either for or against your team or player? Who hasn’t?! Then why not immerse yourself in what it takes to make these often split second decisions, by training to become an official in your favourite sport? What better way to get such an insight, by being front and centre?!
If you’re interested in any of these career paths, an internet search for courses in your area will bring up all the relevant information you’ll need in order to study and qualify, and how you might go about becoming registered in the relevant field. As a group of committed OYG trainers, we promise you a rewarding, fulfilling career ahead!
