I Can’t Manage All My Workouts... Help!
“The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry”. This is a line from a 1786 poem written by the Scottish poet, Robert Burns. Now more often than not quoted as “the best laid plans don’t always go as they should”, many of us can regularly apply this phrase to our healthy eating and exercise plans.
Because we get it. There are times when exercising and eating a healthy, freshly prepared meal simply feels too hard.
We might start off full of eagerness and good will, only to really struggle (and sometimes give up) only a few weeks later. Perhaps more so with exercise, more than healthy eating. Or, we may simply struggle from the very beginning, either because of a lack of motivation, time constraints or difficulty completing exercise.
But for whatever reason you’re finding it hard to commit to your Own Your Goals fitness plan, we’re here to help motivate and energise you. The beauty of OYG with Davina is that it’s for everyone. Whether you’re an absolute beginner or you’re used to regular exercise, we have a workout plan that’s perfect for you.
If you’re struggling, then let’s press reset. There’s no harm in starting over, this time with a fresher mindset. So let’s think about your why for exercising. Is it to tone up? Feel fitter? Lose weight? Feel mentally stronger? To make you feel more in control of your life? To do something for yourself? Once you’ve established your reason for wanting to exercise, write it down and stick it up around your home to remind you. Leave it in places where you’ll see it all the time, to remind you that this is your why and this is your motivation.
Own Your Goals is broken down into three weekly workouts, designed to be completed over ten weeks, plus extra bonus workouts such as yoga, dance classes, ten minute fat burn classes and challenges. But if you’re feeling overwhelmed, then let’s start from the beginning again.
Our Beginner Programme has been specifically developed for anyone who is new to exercise or who hasn’t exercised in a long time. Each workout takes 25 minutes and will burn around 200 calories. We’ve added dumbbells to some of our workouts, but you don’t have to use any fancy equipment. Filled water bottles or cans of food are a great alternative to get you used to exercising with weights. They really are a great addition to any workout as they’ll make your efforts more worthwhile and we promise you, with our gentle persuasion, you really will find them less daunting with time.
Take each workout as a separate entity. What we mean is, try not to think about anything but the workout you’re about to do. If that’s Week 1, Workout 1, then congrats! You’re starting! It doesn’t matter what Week 1, Workout 2 or beyond contains, you’re about to boss this one!
We recommend completing three sessions a week over the ten weeks, but remember – this is a recommendation, and this isn’t a race. That’s why working out with OYG is so brilliant, because you can take things completely at your own pace. It’s all about owning your goals, and every single one of us will take a different amount of time and a different route to get there. If you don’t make three this week, you might next week, and so on.
How much time it takes you to reach your goals is personal to you. Make sure you remember this next time you’re feeling overwhelmed or guilty for not doing ‘enough’ exercise.
