The Benefits of Doing it Together!

Starting off on a weight loss journey can be difficult and even lonely. You’re full of questions and doubt, and it can be tricky knowing where to start.

How do you know what to do for the best? Which healthy eating choices will keep you fuller for longer over others? How often is too often when it comes to eating ‘little and often’. What if you’d prefer bigger meals, less often?

Aside from the everyday conundrums, what about on special occasions? How do you best navigate the breakfast buffet on holiday? Which options at a BBQ are the healthiest? What about drinking alcohol?

Then there’s exercise. How much should you be exercising and what type of activity counts as exercise? What if you have an off day? What if you really need some motivation? What do you do if the rest of the family aren’t even thinking about diet and exercise?

It can be a minefield, and we totally understand.

That’s why we firmly believe in the power of community and surrounding yourself with likeminded people who will motivate and inspire you, whilst being supportive and non-judgemental.

Why Together?

Being part of a group, be that online, in real life or a mixture of the two, can have enormous benefits for weight loss.

In fact, studies back this up. In the summer of 2018, researchers found that group based weight loss programmes motivated participants to lose an extra 3.5kg in six months over those not participating in community programmes.

It seems that even science is backing up our love of our community and doing it together, rather than choosing to do it alone.

Being part of the Own Your Goals community means you can share tips and join in conversations to help you stay motivated. You can trade ideas on wholesome, filling foods with enjoyable ways to keep fit. You may get inspired to try a completely new exercise or cook a dish from scratch that you’ve never tried before.

It’s also easier to stick to a plan of diet and exercise if you know that others are doing the same as you. If you’re making significant changes to the food choices you make, the way you live your life and how much you exercise you do, then you’re bound to feel overwhelmed at times.

Making such changes to your lifestyle isn’t done without effort, and having motivation, support and advice on hand when you need it is empowering both during difficult times and the times when you’re feeling most proud.

Celebrating Successes and Help Through the Struggles

Being part of a community such as ours can be rewarding in other ways too. Hearing how others are celebrating success may urge you on and make you surpass your goals. But just as rewarding is hearing how others may be struggling to stay committed – you may take solace in the fact that you’re not alone, or you may be able to help someone to get their mojo back.

Being motivated by someone is one thing, but imagine being the motivator?! How good would it feel to be someone’s inspiration or push to reach their own goals?

So join us, connect with people just like you and reap the benefits of all that our wonderfully supportive community has to offer!
