The Top Places to Visit on Holiday this Year
Now that Covid related travel restrictions are all but eased (and we’re hopeful they’ll stay that way), the world once again is open for exploring. There’s so many wonderful places to visit, especially in the summertime, so we’ve put together a list of top holiday destinations to visit this year.
The UK itself is a stunning place to visit, so we’ve included many places on home soil that you may not have yet discovered. So get your bags packed, off we go!
First up, we’re sticking to staycations:
- The Scottish Highlands - with breathtaking scenery and the bluest, most crystal clear waters you simply wouldn’t expect from the UK, try some island hopping and definitely sample some of the divine Harris Gin made on the Isle of Harris.
- Mersea Island - found in North Essex close to historic Colchester, Mersea Island really is an island - it’s cut off by the tide twice a day, so be sure to check tide times. Local oysters are a must and most of the island is doggy friendly.
- If you love athletics, the Commonwealth Games are being hosted in Birmingham this year, along with the Birmingham 2022 Festival of creative projects. The Bullring & Grand Central Station in the city centre is the largest shopping and restaurant complex in the UK - so there’s something for everyone!
- If the universe is your thing, Northern Ireland is hosting Our Place in Space, part of the UK-wide UNBOXED: Creativity in the UK project. This project looks at our place in the solar system and beyond and is suitable for the whole family.
- Feeling active? Head to Snowdonia, the huge National Park in Wales where you can climb, hike, cycle and wild camp to your hearts’ content.
Looking to go further afield? Pack your passport for these global destinations!
- The Greek island of Rhodes has something for all ages and tastes, from a hectic nightlife to ultimate foodies to culture vultures. Rhodes Town is historically stunning, but head south and you’ll discover an array of gorgeous sandy beaches ideal for whiling away the days.
- For the ultimate in Caribbean luxury, go all out and head to an adults only resort in Antigua. The white sand stretches for miles and the azure blue seas even further.
- If you’re looking to travel long haul, but not quite as far as Australia or New Zealand, head for the Indonesian island of Bali. Known for its peaceful, laid back lifestyle it’s ideal for anyone looking for a bit of zen. It’s also leading the way as a destination for vegans and yogis.
- Japan is featuring on many top destination lists after earning its stripes hosting the most recent Olympic and Paralympic Games. Head to Tokyo if you love the hustle bustle, but adventurers will love the rural side to Japan, with stunning countryside landscapes.
- If sailing is your thing, then you have to explore Alaska. The icy landscapes, scenic backdrops and majestic wildlife are all on offer and ideally spotted from on board a cruise ship.
Enjoy!
